Spotlight Camps (Grades 3-9)

Academic Spotlight Camps

New for 2023, FaySummer's Academic Spotlight Camps are for students entering grades 5-9 who are interested in a full-day academic camp. As fully immersive programs, the camps are designed to build upon existing skills and interests, all in a fun and supportive setting.

FaySummer Spotlight Camps are led by experienced teachers and instructors with a demonstrated expertise in their program area. All camps take place on Fay's 66-acre campus, which includes state-of-the-art academic facilities, air-conditioned classrooms, a theater, a new Center for Creativity and Design, and more.

All FaySummer Spotlight Camps must have a minimum enrollment to run. If a program has low enrollment, campers will be able to transfer to another Spotlight Camp or another FaySummer program.

This program is geared towards both new and seasoned musical theater enthusiasts.
  • Entrepreneurship Camp (July 31 - August 4 for Grades 6-9)

Have you ever wanted to start your own business or website? In this class for budding entrepreneurs, that’s exactly what you’ll do! You’ll work with fellow campers to come up with a simple company idea, taking it as far as it will go before the program ends. You’ll create a business plan, enlist friends and family, and set up everything you need to be a junior entrepreneur: a first email address, a basic app or website, and a presentation. Ultimately, you’ll share your idea with friends and family, work hard to get a first customer, and present all your progress to the whole group. You’ll have a ton of fun and accomplish more than you ever have before!
  • Real-World Robotics (August 7-11 for Grades 5-8)

Each morning, campers will learn how to build and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 technology. Campers will use their new skills to solve real-world problems, such as programming robots to help in a natural disaster. Campers will program and modify their robot to complete challenges set up on a large game board.

Each afternoon, campers will explore alternative and renewable forms of energy from the sun, wind, and water. Working together, they will use specialized LEGO® bricks to build three projects: a solar-powered car, a windmill, and a watermill. Saving the planet starts with transforming the ways we power our electronics, and that could start with brick-building fun!

The resulting games can be shared online and texted to friends for them to play on their phones and devices. You don’t need any previous experience or special software skills for this camp.
