  • Adventure Camp Counselor

    Description
    FaySummer seeks Adventure Camp Counselors to work during its 8-week summer camp program for children ages 3 to 15 years. Adventure Camp Counselors spend the day working with campers and staff, participating in activities, and ensuring the safe operations of the challenge course. This includes high and low ropes as well as an indoor and outdoor climbing wall.
     
    The position will begin with staff training in June, in preparation for camp's opening day. When camp is in session, the normal work schedule is 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be available.
     
    Qualifications
    Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and currently or previously enrolled in a college program. A bachelor’s degree and previous experience working with children ages 3 to 15 in a camp, school, or child care setting are preferred. Experience or training in challenge course activities is strongly preferred. The ability to supervise staff and work as a team is required. Candidates are expected to be professional and have strong verbal and written communication skills.
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Attending all required orientation and training sessions
    • In collaboration with the Outdoor Adventure Team Leader, planning and supervising the daily operations of the challenge course, including safety inspections, general maintenance, and camper supervision
    • Interacting with staff and campers throughout the day to encourage community development 
    • Understanding FaySummer emergency policies and procedures, and providing instruction to staff and campers about these procedures
    • Providing general care and safety oversight for all children attending FaySummer camps and direct care and oversight for children in assigned groups
    • Being knowledgeable about individual camper needs including allergies, medications, and special diets
    • Actively participating in all assigned duties and encouraging campers to participate in all activities
    • Modeling FaySummer’s standards of respect for all members of the community, dress code, good manners, kindness, and behavior; ensuring that campers understand and comply with these community expectations

  • Camp Counselor

    June 27 – August 19, 2022

    Description

    FaySummer seeks applicants for the position of Camp Counselor to work during its 8-week summer camp program for children ages 3 to 15 years. Camp Counselors spend the day working with campers, participating in activities, helping campers make friends and try new things, while ensuring each child’s physical safety. FaySummer has been running for more than 20 years and is set on a beautiful, 66-acre campus. 

    The position will begin with staff training during the week of June 20, in preparation for camp opening on June 27, 2022. Camp runs Monday through Friday and staff will have 40-hour work weeks. With the extended morning and afternoon options there will be some earlier and later shifts available. Camp Counselors report to their Unit Leader and the Camp Director. For those seeking additional hours in the evening and weekends, there are shifts available with the residential camp. 

    FaySummer is the highlight of the year for many children who get to take part in swimming, challenge courses, sports, arts, music and more! Counselors will have energy and enthusiasm to create the best experience possible for every camper. 

    Qualifications

    Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have competed one year of college prior to the first day of camp. Working towards or a completed bachelor’s degree in a related field and previous experience working with children ages 3 to 15 in a camp, school, or childcare setting are preferred. Candidates are expected to be professional, have strong verbal communication skills, and to have a high level of comfort giving direction when required. The ideal candidate will have energy, enthusiasm and be safety conscious. A positive attitude and desire to ensure that campers have the best experience possible is essential. 

    Responsibilities include:

    •    Attending all required orientation and training sessions
    •    Understanding and implementing FaySummer emergency policies and procedures
    •    Providing general care and safety oversight for all children attending FaySummer camps and direct care and oversight for children in assigned groups
    •    Being knowledgeable about individual camper needs including allergies, medications, and special diets
    •    Actively participating in all assigned duties and encouraging campers to participate in all activities
    •    Modeling FaySummer’s standards of respect for all members of the community, dress code, good manners, kindness, and behavior; ensuring that campers understand and comply with these community expectations
    •    Implementing and operating within COVID-19 safe procedures. 

    Fay School requires all eligible employee to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment, subject to requests for accommodation for medical and religious exemptions. Weekly testing is performed. Masks are currently required indoors.

  • English Immersion Teacher

    Description
    FaySummer seeks applicants for English Immersion Teachers to work during its 4-week program for children from around the world, ages 10 to 15 years. The English teacher will implement and adapt the provided curriculum for the students enrolled in the course and ensure lessons are age and ability appropriate for their group. This position reports to the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
     
    English Immersion is an ideal setting for students to improve English skills and learn about American culture and customs through daily classroom instruction, careful guidance, and targeted feedback. Experience working with Asian students is a plus.
     
    Qualifications
    A bachelor’s degree and previous experience working with children ages 10 to 15 in a camp or school setting is preferred. Candidates are expected to be professional, enjoy and be able to work effectively with children from diverse cultures and different countries, have strong communication skills, and to have a high level of comfort giving direction when required.
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Administering curriculum
    • Writing scheduled progress reports for each student in the class
    • Communicating regularly with the Director of Auxiliary Program
    • Maintaining a positive attitude with students and colleagues
    • Having strong and reliable internet connection

  • Swim Instructor and Lifeguard

    June 27 – August 19, 2022

    Description

    FaySummer seeks applicants for Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to work during its 8-week summer camp program for children ages 3 to 15 years. The position will begin with staff training during the week of June 20, in preparation for camp opening on June 27, 2022. When camp is in session, the normal work schedule is 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For those seeking additional hours there will be opportunities to work additional hours later in the afternoon and on weekends. 

    Aquatics staff work as a team to create a safe, fun, well-organized, and educational program that includes swim lessons, free swim, and swim tests. Lifeguard duties will include assisting in pool maintenance responsibilities and reports to the Aquatics Director and to the Director of Auxiliary Programs. This is an active position that requires constant interaction with campers and counselors. 
    Fay School has two outdoor pools and we seek to have all campers access the pool each day. Time will be split between lifeguard duties and swim instruction as well as other pool duties as required. Join the FaySummer team to create some unforgettable memories for campers as they develop their swimming ability and confidence in the pool this summer. 

    Qualifications

    Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, completed a year of college and hold a current lifeguard certification or become certified before starting work. Previous experience working with children ages 3 to 15 is strongly preferred. Candidates are expected to be professional and to have a high level of comfort enforcing water safety procedures with campers and staff.

    Responsibilities include:

    •    Assessing camper swimming abilities and delivering individualized swim instruction to teach water safety and to improve basic strokes
    •    Developing and implementing deep-end swim test procedures
    •    Assisting in pool maintenance tasks including vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, general clean-up, and lock-down of the pool area and equipment
    •    Participating in all camp orientation programs
    •    Being a role model for FaySummer and Fay School and championing the core values
